In Maine, do the towns and/or the state offer any tax reduction for disabled vets?

Reading that sentence structure is difficult. The state provides a flowchart which is much easier to read

Thank you for the references.

See if I understand this correctly.
IE: property is evaluated and taxed at 100K...if you are 100% disabled..you would be taxed on 94K?

And this benefit apples if you are 62 yrs of age as well and been honorably discharged?

Yes indeed, but it is on your primary residence only, not on some camp or wood lot. I used to be 62 once, a long time ago.

a. You must become a resident of Maine.

b. You must have been discharged w/o a Bad Conduct Discharge.

Then either:
c. You must have served during a war, and reached 62. or;

d. You must have served during a war, and became totally disabled. or;

e. Your disability must be service-related and you must be receiving either a pension or disability compensation.

Gentlemen, thank you for the responses. Question was answered.
It would be for a primary residence and I understand the qualification requirement now.
Seems like each state handles it differently and I didn't really think about looking into it before.
Every little bit of savings helps. Thanks again.

A $6,000 deduction on your valuation is worth $120 a year in the average town. In the Unorganized territories it is only worth $42 on average.

i am a disabled vet with service connected disability status. that amount, 6k really isnt much in savings. i think its pathetic that disabled vets dont get more than they do, for what they gave. think of how much is given to the vast number of career welfare families in this country.

I agree!
After Northern Maine Land Man did the math, it sure didn't look too good. The sound of 6K off your total sounded good but when broken down to what it actually amounts to, really isn't very much. It is sad that states don't do a little more to recognize Veterans other than token gestures or fancy words. Some do a better job than others in the recognition factor but like a lot of other things...praise when you need or want them there..forget them when they served the purpose.
