He had insurance, just not against a fire.

No cooking was beign done on the premises so why get fire insurance?

I live in a town that sees flooding, yet many here have no flood insurance.

While it's true that he did invest a tidy sum to rehab the place and get it up and running and really should have protected his investment, I believe it was a matter of time before he had to expand business somehow.

I know it's a draw for a certain clientele, but upon real reflection, could he sufficiently make enough money just selling coffee to pay for the rehab, costs associated with doing business (i.e. payroll, etc) and afford insurance on top of it? I wonder if he could even get an insurance company to insure it given it's uhmmmm...how shall we put it? Controversy??? Maybe it was too much of a liability considering how much ire it raised? I dunno, just throwing out some ideas there.

At any rate, he still didn't deserve to have the placed torched regardless.

They only 'cooked' coffee.
It wouldn't be the first time a coffee machine burned down a restaurant. He should have had insurance. I bet he will next time.
