Default Strawberries! The first of the season

It is raining today.

While feeding our hogs, I did wander through the garden and I saw, well...

I was looking at our strawberry beds, and,

Then I looked closer

And two more:

Nice green, but wait,..

IF you look close [or zoom in] you can just barely see a splash of red in there:

And boy these plants are thriving too:

What I mean to say is that we have strawberries!

Congratulations! Those are some good looking plants. Our strawberries are just starting to come on, too. So that's some good garden news. Bad news is that a lot of our corn didn't come up and none of the cucumbers. Oh, well. Everything else looks good, especially the tomatoes, peppers and snap peas.

's are definately my favorite fruit. I've been relegated to buying them in the plastic tubs too long. Yours look great.

I think FBK has a green thumb.Amongst a few dozen other talents.

Not so good, the first planting was wiped out by hard frost. I posted that at the time, then re-planted.

Within our effort to shift a greater percentage of our diet over to things harvested here, B has found that dried beans make a good substitute for wheat.

So more and more of our breads and such are from beans rather than from wheat [it changes bread from being a starch/carb to being a protein].

I do not recall if I posted this other tidbit but she has also found that ground horseradish makes a good black pepper substitute. And horseradish grows great here

Good for you! The pick your own places have been harvesting berries for about 2 weeks around here. There also seem to be a zillion wild strawberries in the field this year....good year!

very nice! DH and a friend did a brief walk around the "yard" and the "backfield" between downpours today. There's rhubarb, blackberries, and an apple orchard that needs serious attention. The rhubarb is ready, I need to find my canning jars. Now, if the weather will just dry up a bit........

Look on the bright side the house will warm, not hot when the canning starts

Thank you for the nice photos! I can almost taste them - berries, not photos.

Very neat planters, too...

Those berries deserve some sun!!!

Thank you.

Those are 55-gallon drums cut in half. Some with split garden hoses on the rough edges to protect gardeners from getting themselves cut.
