I don't know... Perhaps income is less evenly spread in PG county than Baltimore county? After all, I'm seeing plenty of PG county areas in the top 100 list but not that many Baltimore county areas, and Baltimore's median income isn't that far behind PG's. Some information on poorest jurisdiction and poverty rates might help. Also, isn't Baltimore county's cost of living a lot cheaper than PG county's? I know that Baltimore metro area is cheaper than the Washington metro in general.

I wonder where Worcester would be on the scale without Ocean City... Probably down with Somerset which I don't see as a bad thing.

Wow I think I have to disagree with this list as Clarksville should be near the top and its not even on the list. Even the run down homes are going for higher then a decent non run down home here in columbia and everyone drives an expensive car/truck it seems. At the very least their attitude is worth a high income as they are snobby as can be.

I don't care what. A name like "Darnestown" should take a place out of the top 100 list.

Default boredatwork

The thing about Baltimore is that there is rarely new contruction. The best places in Bmore county around Towson look like a regular neighborhoods in College Park...The worst places in Bmore county around Woodlawn arent that bad either...PG county has newer more continuous wealth, not sprinkles of good neighborhoods. You can find wealthy neighborhoods from Greenbelt all the way down to National Harbor. Some neighborhoods in PG inside the beltway rival some of Baltimore city's worst neighborhoods

So where's a good cut off line that no solid 'middle class' person would be able to afford?

No clear cutoff. I would say if the area is about the respective County's median household income, as supplied in message #22, then it's less affordable. We could could define a cut-off as the places that only 25% of the households can afford. Then 75% of households could not afford to live there.

I find this whole discussion a bit silly, however. Some of the places in Chevy Chase are so narrowly defined, they include only upper income neighborhoods. And #5, Somerset is just a few apartment buildings. Of course, they are unaffordable to most people. But that is meaningless to a typical house-hunter who is looking for a place he *can* afford.
