I don't live in Ocean City but have visited occasionally. It's a rundown little working-class beach resort which attracts alot of teenagers in summer who drink too much. There is a boardwalk and roller coaster. There are 2nd homes in the many trailer parks on the bayside of the main road. The beach side is hotels and condos. I do not consider it nice. I prefer the Delaware shore, especially Lewes area and Cape Henlopen.

I have to say the previous post used to be true, but in the last 5 or 6 years Ocean City has really improved. A lot of the nasty little beach dumps that called themselves hotels have been torn down and replaced with incredible high rises. The Wash Post had an article over the summer about how the last of the trailer parks have been sold to developers.

Property values have soared as more as more people from Md., Pa., DC and Va., have purchased second vacation homes at the Maryland and Delaware Shores.

I agree that the Delaware beaches are still a lot nicer, but Ocean City isn't the redneck dump it used to be. It's actually a lot of fun!

I hope it doesn't turn into Dewey or Bethany or Rehoboth - those places are great, but OC has it's own charm!

It's pretty dead in the winter. I visit family that lives on the Delaware shores year round and there's really not much going on from October - March. So make sure you save the money you make in the summertime!!!

Ocean City has high crime, very very high actually, almost 4 times the average. It's kinda nice for a visit, I wouldn't live there, and yes, dead in winter...very dead...as in you might hear some flies sneezing if the cold didn't chase them away!

I agree with others in that unless its warm there is nothing to do. I live about 30 mins from OC and worked there 7 or so yrs ago.

If you are used to city conveniences(retail dept. stores, stuff to do yr round) you might want to look elsewhere. Its expensive as well.
