I am considering a move to Hagerstown, and I am on a very tight budget, so the properties I am looking at are not in ideal area, but I simply want to live in a place that is not dangerous. I am currently considering two homes in the areas I describe below. I have read through the forum and came to the conclusion that north Hagerstown is ideal, but again, I wouldn’t have much of a choice but to live in the southern parts. Any feedback would be great.

The first is in the area of Chestnut Street, Maryland Avenue, and Spruce Street closer to West Memorial Boulevard than West Wilson Boulevard. I’ve seen some “private property” signs here on Google Maps which makes me think there may be some issues.

The second is in Funkstown west of South Edgewood Drive and Frederick Road.

On crime maps, both areas seem to be okay relative to the rest of Hagerstown, with the Funkstown location seemingly a little further away from the rough areas. Then again, I’ve only driven through Hagerstown years ago so I have no idea. I am going tomorrow to look at the homes.

Maryland Ave and Spruce St....those are safe areas. Not sure where Chestnut is. Houses are older, but it's a decent working class area.
