Hi! My spouse has just accepted a job offer in Essex and we will be moving *very* soon! I was wondering about the safety of different suburbs. We don't have a lot of money and my spouse is a teacher so we don't really see our monetary situation changing soon! (Meaning we can't afford ritzy, ditzy areas!) My main worry is that we have two kids on the autistic spectrum - one pretty severe with no idea of personal safety, etc. They are both runners so a good neighborhood with a bad one just a few blocks away isn't any good for us. Any ideas? We would be will to have a longer commute time for a safer area... Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Baltimore and most of it's nearer in 'burbs are usually a block by block situation. How far are you willing to commute? Northern Balto. county might be best. Whenever it comes to this area, my answer is to get rural. My personal feeling is to get your children as far from Baltimore city as is reasonable. Housing prices drop off pretty well as you get outside into the counties. Look on the northern sides because, while I'm sure there are some great neighborhoods to the south of the city, I don't think your dollars will go as far there.
