I suggest looking in Western Howard County, Southern Carroll County, and Eastern Frederick County.

Unless you're traveling in the middle of the night or (*possibly*) in the middle of the day, you can't drive from North East, MD (or anywhere in Cecil County) to Rockville in 90 minutes. And it would be a godawful pain drive, to boot.

I still don't get this thread.

People are always coming on here, want to work in DC, or the DC Metro, and can't afford to live in DC, or the Metro, and are willing to go through crazy commutes to have a job there.

The OP is mostly telecommuting, want's to live Rural, than why even live in the state if you only have to there once in a while?

And does the OP wan't to be near anything? You don't have to live in the city, but you can be 15 miles from it in a very rural setting. And be with 5 miles of almost everything.

I can drive to Quaker Bottom Road and it will seem like it is very much in the middle of nowhere, but it's not that far from everything.

My Father in his late 60's after retirement worked in New York City, driving there from Baltimore, and back every week. Did it for two years. He would stay there three days, and come back.

Why not live 60 miles south west of DC in Virginia Will be cheap, and very rural.

I can't even imagine making a trip from Havre de Grace to Rockville. Anything north of Baltimore would be a nighmare as you would face traffic getting through the city and then again near the MD burbs of DC.

Not sure what the description of small town feel is but Richmond is certainly bigger than the towns suggested here. My first thought was Frederick, a simply lovely town of 60,000 with mountain views and farms right outside of town. Or perhaps Sykesville, which has a more small town feel than the sprawl that is Eldersburg. Mt Airy of course is my home and it's a wonderful place but housing is expensive.

I asked for recommendations of where to live based of what we want, not for you to tell me where YOU think I should live based on what you would do and what your dad did. I do not care what you think of my situation. We Live in Virginia now, we cannot live in Virginia because of the job my husband is taking. His company wants him in Maryland as most of the territory is in Maryland. He does not have an office to report to on a regular basis, he goes to different areas all over Maryland. On the occasion he does need to go to the office, he needs to be within two hours. We also WANT to be closer to NJ since our family is still there and we have young children, so that’s why we don’t want to be in southern Maryland. Now please go back to being a troll on Facebook and stop trolling my post.

Digger has been here a long time, he is a well respected member of our board community. I suggest if you would like us to help that you stop being so aggressive towards people who are simply trying to help and looking for clarification. You said nothing about being required to live in MD or your desire to be closer to NJ until this post, how was Digger or anyone else to know this?

For the record, there is a difference in aggressive and assertive. Digger is being aggressive by continuously telling me he doesn’t understand why people would do these sorts of moves that my family is doing, and originally had not offered any advice or questions to understand more. Had he started asking questions along with his first or second post I might not have felt attacked. I am being assertive by kindly asking him not to troll my post unless he has advice. Also for the record, I do not care of his “status quo” on a website.

I am looking for advice, not a fight or drama. I’m in no way a fan of internet drama.

For clarification purposes: we need to be in Maryland state and would like to be away from the city, but also not in the middle of nothing but farms. As mentioned previously, our family is still in Southern NJ so the closer the better. Grade Schools especially need to be good. Would like convenience of a handful of stores within 20 minutes.

Nope. Digger probably meant well but he completely blew it and you just made that worse.

Not sure how I made it worse but whatever. I'm out.

If schools are a major issue, and you can afford it, I would start your search in Howard County, and look for places outside of Columbia, within "20 Minutes". As far as traffic is concerned, you will be seeing a lot of that just about anywhere between Baltimore and Washington. The further west of I-95 you go, the less traffic you will have, until you start getting close to I-270.
