I will be moving to the area at the end of the year and am wanting some opinions on where to look for housing. I am married and we have a 2 1/2 year old son and will have a 3 month old when we move. I am planning on being there for a while and would like to be in a safe area with good schools. I would like to be within 30 minutes of Devens if possible. I have seen threads recommending Acton and Leominster, are these still good areas? I know that neighborhoods can change over time. I would like to stay around 1500-1600 for rent if that will get me in a decent area.

Acton, Ayer and Shirley are safe bets for those who don't want to worry about which neighborhood they are moving into.

With your budget you should have no problem finding a single family home to rent. You could get a good apartment for significantly less.

There's nothing really not safe except maybe around Fitchburg and the Leominster/Fitchburg line. Your budget, as noted, is quite good for any of the towns suggested. I think Acton might be considered the 'best" town of the ones suggested, although I also favor Littleton. Good luck on your move- I spent some time out at Devens when it was Fort Devens, wearing funny green clothing.
