Hi, I am coming for an interview for a residency in the Boston area at the federal prison in Devens. I would be moving with my husband and two children. My primary issue is a place that is safe and has a lot to offer my children (safety, parks, libraries, etc.) Schools are also not an issue. We homeschool our children. We understand we'd have to drive into the city. My husband works from home, so there is no commute issue there. I am hoping that living outside Boston will be more affordable. I will only be here for one year for the residency likely. It will be a very difficult move for my kids, so I want to make it as wonderful as possible.

I would love information on neighborhoods, towns, rental realtors you'd recommend, anything.

My preferences:
- no more than a 20-30 minute commute for me
- rent no more than $1600 if possible, but we could go up to about $1800, but would love to keep it under that.
- we'd prefer a house or townhome in a nice neighborhood - 3 bedrooms would be nice

Thanks for any thoughts!

I have one word for you- Littleton. A wonderful family community, non-pretentious, good community/schools/lake/kids' stuff. Five miles to Devens. No crime.
Easy enough to drive into town if desired but that would likely be a weekend thing (about 45 minutes to Cambridge/Boston on a weekend).
Best wishes.
