Maynard and Sudbury are half way between and pretty areas. I know Sudbury is supposed to have a good school system. It would be something of a back road commute, though. Hudson and Marlborough would be on the highway route.

You didn't say what your budget is. Do you need access to public transportation? Do you prefer country or city? Do you want a "ritzy" suburb?

We would like an apartment under 1500 usd per month, but understand that it is slightly optimistic. We are ready to go upto 2000.

As to public transport, it will be a nice to have, but not absolutely necessary.

That budget should work in Acton, Boxborough or Maynard.

Is the Maynard school system comparable to that of Acton? The ratings seem to be on a slightly lower side...

Maynard is above average. AB is one of the top rated school systems in the state.

No way ... I've never even heard anyone call Maynard schools average! I know you can't judge a school district solely by test scores, but an average SAT score of below 1500 should tell you something. That's below average even for the US, so it's well-below average for Metrowest Boston standards.

I would go AB...you will find decent housing in the $1500-$2000 budget range. The commute to Natick will not be ideal but having 1 parent near the school and home makes more sense than splitting the difference IMO. Sudbury is actually a very decent compromise but you won't find many housing options in the $1500-$2K range.

Thanks a lot. We will consider Acton first, and keep Natick as the second option.

If you want access to public transport, Natick is the better option. Actually Newton would be the best option but very expensive.

I think W. Concord to Natick can be done on back roads (126) in about half an hour (depends upon where you start). Maybe 40 minutes at rush hour. Boxborough from W. Concord would be be 15 to 20 minutes I would guess.

Sudbury would be closer to Natick but farther from Boxborough.

Harvard is a nice town, also with good schools, but would be farther from Natick and would probably require taking 495 for the commute. I don't commute that way but is 495 S congested at rush hour?
