Consider going to website meetup.com and looking into gatherings in your area.
I have attended some childfree and some atheist groups in Merrimack Valley area. Not so many people over 50, true, but still of interest. The closer in to the city you go, the younger the people seem to get, and are also sometimes more "singles"-minded.

I wish I could retire at 50... the government thinks we should be retiring at 65... and that number keep going up.

Things to occupy your time:
Volunteer
open up a business
travel
...
if all else fails...
come out of retirement like Michael Jordan...
