Hello, there. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the weather is in springtime in Salem? We are planning to relocate there in a few years. I have a huge anxiety over tornado weather and living in the Midwest is doing nothing but making springtime the worst time of year for me. I know you run that risk pretty much anywhere but the Midwest isn't called Tornado Alley for no reason.

Welcome to C-D!

Risk of a tornado in coastal New England is pretty low, in general, however, there was a minor tornado in Revere - about 10 miles from Salem - earlier this summer.

It's the summer time lightning strikes and flash flooding that you have to worry about in Salem!

Tornado risk is pretty minimal here. Spring weather tends to be cool. It's not uncommon for the coastal areas of the North Shore to be a good 10 degrees cooler than inland locations, i.e. Metrowest (Framingham, Natick, etc), and places like Nashua, NH away from the water.

I appreciate the feedback! It's good to know the risk is significantly lower.

the tornado in revere was a 1 in 500 year anomaly. tornadoes simply so not happen near shore ie salem. your risk of being hit by a psycho north shore driver is much higher than bwing sucked into a tornado.

spring varies drastically year to year. we've had 80s and sun in march (tho rare) and 60s and rain/fog/mist for entire June s.

I will agree the temp at coast will be 10-15 deg cooler esp in spring cuz the ocean temp rises slower than continental air mass. ie I've had days where its 80 at work (chelms) and 65 at home (marble)
