Quality of the roommates is important too. Up in NH, when we look to add a housemate to our place, we go for UNH graduate students over an older local. Most interests in common, less potential dramas and more importantly, less chance of them having babies or children for us to deal with.

I think living in a share closer to town will be much more enjoyable socially, at OP's age. The commute isn't bad at all. Best wishes to OP on the new job and new place to live! Would you consider posting and updating people as to how you are finding life in your new situations?

I don't like that commute at all.

When I was a young engineer working at DEC in Marlboro many moons ago, I lived in the Waterview apartment complex on route 9 in Framingham - I have many pleasant memories of it - not hard to get into Boston from there. The Hudson plant (which in those days was DEC's semiconductor facility) is not too far from there. Lowell is also an excellent suggestion - in fact I moved from Framingham to Lowell while I was working in Marlboro. I would consider living in Worcester (where I have also lived) to be a fate worse than death. Just my two cents.

When did you live there and why?

It seems cooler and cooler the more I spend time there, while Framingham seems hellish.

I am a MA girl, but not for many years. Commute time is really important, no matter where your live. Keep your quality of life in mind when you decide where to live.
