I'm working near MIT in Cambridge between Kendall and Central T. My wife and I landed about 6 months ago in Medford near Tufts out of necessity, but we're not digging the "campus" vibe - college age neighbors letting their dogs crap on the sidewalks, landlords all seem to be lying incompetent scumbags, the smell of weed 24/7 (not even the good stuff). Maybe it's like that everywhere, but I'd like to hope there's a borough somewhere off the train where people are responsible enough, people aren't up each other's asses, the rent isn't too insane and the commute to Kendall/Central is under an hour via the T. 2-3BR ~$2500. Where am I more likely to find that? Thanks!

There are a number of townhomes and apartments near Winchester Center in your price range. Commuter rail, a grocery store, parks and the town center are walkable from most of these. I would be surprised if you came across one partying college kid around there. You'd have your pick of apartments in Melrose or Arlington, other places mature professionals live, if Winchester is too suburban for your taste.

Sounds like you aren't city types. At that price range you have many options, what kind of community are you looking for?
