I never needed to drive during peak hours. Off peak I take the pike and in about 30 min I'm in Cambridge.
How long would be the morning commute? if I have to be in Harvard square at 9 am, what is a good time to leave Natick, 7.30? 7? Also, is there a time difference if I take the pike, or rt 9 / rt 16 combo? other suggestions?
TIA!

Depends on what part of Cambridge. I had a client on Mass Ave near Greek Corner. I found the quickest way was up 27 to 126, then back roads to Trapelo Rd. exit, stay on 128 for 1 exit then hop on 2 East. But if your office is in Harvard or Kendall then it may be quicker to take the Pike even with all the current backups in the morning due to the temporary lane shift from construction. Traffic patterns have changed a lot since I used to commute from Natick so I'm hesitant to give any advice on estimated times. Just throwing out the Rt-2 option if you're in North Cambridge.

Parsec, thank you for your response! I know it's hard to give time estimates these days, and I will do sample commutes anyway before making a decision.
The location in Cambridge is between harvard sq and porter sq.
I sometimes take rt 20 / rt 60 / Trapelo rd combination to go to Belmont. It's always off peak, and somewhat unpredictable during the day. Some road or, construction or just "something in the air" may contribute to longer commute some days. Will try it all the way to Cambridge then.
