Quincy is relatively safe and very close to Boston. You can use lots of back-roads into Dorchester across the river and there are 4 red line stops in the city itself. Quincy is in the midst of a building boom with lots of condos coming online. The ones by North Quincy T near the Stop & Shop starts at 425K for a one bedroom, but they are really nice and loaded with high end appliances. Are you looking for cheap condos or comfortable condos? You should check out Quincy.

You can find small condos in Framingham and Acton for around $100k.

You can absolutely find a condo in quincy for under 425k. A 425k condo is not cheap, penny are you serious? Or just trying to show again that quincy is no longer cheap?

Id also check out the nicer parts of Dorchester

1 hour during rush hour or off-peak? HUGE difference.

Of course that's not cheap, but who knows what the standard is for the op. I don't care about condos so they are the only ones I know around where I live.

Haha, my standard definitely isn't that high. The 100K mark is more realistic around my price range. I'd actually love around the 100K mark, but it seems like it's impossible to find a condo for that price even if it's tiny and not that close to Boston. I might have to look into Salem and Framingham more since those seem like decent options.

100K I could actually do and pay in cash at some point in the next five years or so if my projected budget holds up. I'd really like to get property sooner rather than later as right now I just pay rent, which is basically just throwing money away.

If you can pay in cash in five years why not take out a mortgage now?

I don't think I'd be eligible for one. I have some student loans, which are all in the repayment process and I'm also on a forgiveness plan. So, they'll be all set in time and I think I'm handling them very responsibly, but until they are officially paid off/forgiven it makes things like mortgages, car loans, etc. very difficult.
