The snow is really picking up now in Newburyport, looks like this is the storm they were advertising now. I'll probably make a pass with the shovel within an hour so I don't need to do it all at once at the end...

We've picked up 8 or 9 inches so far in Norwell and the wind gusts are picking up. Fingers crossed we don't lose power, but we tend to lose it fairly easily since it's so woodsy here...and for some reason the trees closest to the power lines just love to fall over. I figured the more prepared I am, the less likely I am to lose power, so the wood stove is ready to go and candles/oil lamps/flashlights are out.

Went out about an hour ago to try to do the first phase of shoveling, but the wind was blowing too hard and I was just getting pelted in the face with snow.

Down here in the Hartford area, it's been snowing heavily and sideways all day--white out conditions--trees swaying. We have 8" of snow so far.

Wind picking up now inland. So according to eversource about 1/2 of the early power outages have been fixed. That is a positive sign that they have enough people available. I think we do have about 9 inches on the ground so I do think 12 is likely.

Getting pounded in Cambridge, probably 8" since 8a and it's not completely light and fluffy. Hearing reports of significant flooding downtown from an employee who lives in Harbor Towers. Noha Easta!

We've got wood stacked and ready, but I hope they get the power back on quickly for those who lose it. With the bitter clod coming it could be disastrous.

Well, it took 10 minutes of fiddling with the throttle and choke, but my cranky snowthrower did finally fire up, thank God!

It didn't run well so I had the drive on the slowest setting much of the time to ensure that the engine wouldn't conk out while splitting duties with the auger, which was throwing about 8-10 inches of snow. It made it though, this pass at least - I thought sure I'd be out there shoveling. Now for a well-earned steaming hot bowl of soup!

I was thinking of doing the same but after seeing my neighbor give up with his snowblower after a few minutes, I'm going to wait.

Good idea--I just went out again, but only for about 40 minutes. We have over a foot now, so I may as well just wait for it to end!

My husband is very anti-snow blower. Claims he loves the mindless workout of shoveling. And while both of our offices are closed, he is still expected to work and is on conference calls all day. So guess who gets stuck going out there?? I'm already sick of shoveling and I've barely started!
