Other than the obvious Newton , Concord/Carlisle , Acton/Boxborough , are there other towns near Middlesex county that are high ranking as well? We are looking to relocate out of Ayer , but it seems the better the school , the higher the price you pay for your home. I have looked into Montisourri schools and it is not an affordable option for us. Anyone have any input of the affordable towns of Holden, West Boylston , Clinton or Lunenburg?

Mendon, Marlborough, Hudson are some of hidden jewels.

Holden and West Bolyston are very nice (suburb of Worcester)... not cheap either..
Clinton... probably not.
Lunenburg... don't know anything about it.

Catholic school is another option.

Harvard right next door to Ayer has excellent schools. Of course real estate is really expensive there.

I have had personal experience w/Mendon and would not consider it a "hidden jewel" as a pp indicated...it's ok but not great - just my opinion.

I would add Franklin to the list. Davis Thayer and Remington/Jefferson come to mind as top rated and you can still get a house in Franklin for a somewhat reasonable price.

Good luck!
