Boston-like places in Worcester?
I currently live in Back-Bay (down town Boston) and *love* it. But, there is a great job opportunity coming up in Worcester. My work days tend to be long already, so I can't see myself commuting. I read through some previous threads and see where the 'safe' places are to live in Worcester, but are there any cool/ fun/ Boston-like neighborhoods? I'm single with no kids, love to eat out or see a show. Don't want to live in a 'quiet/ family' neighborhood, but not the ghetto either, anything in between?? Thanks!!

In a word, no.
In a few words, I deeply doubt it.
Maybe someone else can tell you othewise. I haven't lived there, but think I know enough about it.

The canal district or Shrewsbury Street would probably be your best bet. They are converting some of the older brick buikdings to loft apartments in these areas. There are alot of restaurants & is within walking distance to the new Hanover Theater which is similar to the Opera House in Boston. The City Square development would be what you are looking for but has had trouble getting off the ground. Another area that is being redeveloped is the Gateway Park area of North Main st & Grove St. You will not find an area as established as Back Bay but there are some areas that show some promise.

Well, nothing in Worcester is going to compare with Boston, it's much more of a blue-collared town, but it does have it's charms. One area you might consider would be Highland Ave. It's squeezed between WPI and Becker, so it has some signs of a college-neighborhood (coffee shop, cool funky store, cheap sub place, etc) but you'll still be disappointed if you're looking for a full-blown college town atmosphere. The bus runs right down the street and you're only 3 minutes from downtown and 5 minutes to Shrewsbury Street, and there's a great park in walking distance called Elm Park. Not what I'd call a quiet neighborhood, and while it's not unsafe I'd be careful going down side streets after dark.
A better place for the nightlife "things to do" question about Worcester would be the bulletin boards over at Wormtown Nightlife (dot com), so you might try throwing the question up there?

I would second Shrewsbury Street - It has great bars, restaurants, cafes and diners. Probably the best thing to nightlife. You will need a car - there is no really good public transportation but Worcester can be tons of fun too. I loved it there.
