You've been very much against WFH from the get go. I imagine you must be very threatened by WFH for whatever reason. Sorry you have so much angst over it but it's here to stay for many. Are some people going back? yes.

My friend is a psychologist though Mclean and even she has been working remotely for the past two years. She is probably returning soon for more obvious reasons that patients need to face to face time...but if a psychologist can be doing this with a team of other psychologists there is no reason why white collar professionals (some who dont even meet with clients) can't do it either. Any reason as to why they need to be in the office 5 days a week after two years of being remote is BS.

I don't think this poster is necessarily against WFH, he just seems to suffer from a severe lack of awareness that there is anything beyond the biotech labs of Kendall Square. A lot of people live in their own little bubbles like that these days.

pretty sure he basically threatened that i would lose my job about a year ago if my position continued to be WFH. Kind of bizarre.

Like I said, coming from "his little world" that was probably a sincere remark.

This whole 2021 census data is so unreliable. People snapped right back to NYC, SF, Boston and DC (Less so on SF though) by October and November.

2022 or even 2023 numbers will show a better picture. Manhattan had a 12-15% vacancy rate for apts last January. Now its >4%. Thats 50,000 people. Same is true for Btown.

I'm surprised it took that long.

With the traffic on 495, and office parks I pass on 9 (and elsewhere) having completely full parking lots, its like nothing changed from 2019.

Yeah in planning, city population is back to 2019 levels. Some neighborhoods close to the CBD (West Village NYC, South End/Seaport Boston, West Village LA, etc) are well over 2019 levels. It's just a suburbs are up 2-5% in two years around major US Cities like NYC, Boston, SF, Chicago and DC.

However, some neighborhoods in cities haven't recovered fully.

I can’t really say I’m upset that the population went down
