I say doubling the tax on high income earners is foolish. Maybe a 0.5% surcharge by having it go to 9% is enough to push people out IMO

NH is right there, and having lower Taxes than NY is a competitive advantage. Why pick Boston over NY to do business if the taxes are equal?

The state has also sen bonkers Median HHI growth in the last 20 years. I really don’t think revenue is the issue. So people have been paying more tax already and it doesn’t seem to have helped.

You can argue New York gets along fine with quite high taxes, but it’s also New York.

BBMM brought up Maryland but again, it’s largest employer is the Feds and associated people so it’s pretty much impossible for them to sink that ship no matter what they do

Today we mourn the loss of the Credibility of our local fearmongering RWNJ

The face of opposition to Question 1 admits proposed tax wouldn’t hurt him much: ‘I’m not struggling’

In a mailer opposing the measure, Cakounes says the measure would be “taking away money we are depending on for our retirement.”

But Cakounes is going to do just fine in retirement, whether or not Question 1 passes. A search of Registry of Deeds records across the state reveals the Republican former local politician, sometime radio and podcast host, tour operator, and farmer is sitting on property worth millions, including rental properties in Harwich and Belchertown. He estimates his home and the land on which it sits are worth $3 million.

And for two decades, from 2001 to 2021, Cakounes farmed cranberries on 33.6 acres of public land, which he leased from the town of Harwich for a total of $63,859 over those 20 years, according to a copy of the lease. That averages out to $95 per acre, per year.

Congratulations homie, you’ve discovered the third most certain thing in the universe after death and taxes - everyone politically-connected is a grifter. Now, imagine for a second you’re just an average h*nkey college-educated professional with a job, a house or a condo, a 401K and some investments of your own. Now, once you stop punching the mirror, ask yourself a question - would you vote for grifters who will make you six or maybe even seven figures via stock market and real estate gains while they grift billions for themselves, or will you vote for grifters who will make everything you own nearly worthless and leave you completely destitute, with nothing but a meager social security check that would buy you a can or two of cat food, while they grift billions for themselves?

Didn't you recently admit that CT might have lost a lot of people due to the high top bracket tax rate? If it played out like that there, I see no reason to think MA won't go down the same path. You can't have it both ways.

Not only that but guess who’ll end up on the hook for everything when there’s an inevitable shortfall but all the grifters still want their promised billions?

This is a much less severe tax than CTs tax structure. And effects far far fewer people.

And MA has a stronger more unique local economy, and many other positive attributes/destinations CT doesn’t namely the MBTA, The Cape and Islands, and the City of Boston. Apples and Oranges.
