So you think the people coming up from Central and South America are educated ? If so how will they get a professional job if they are here illegally?

I think we both know people coming up from Haiti and Venezuela are most likely not educated in the way they need to be to get a job here.

As another poster already mentioned, there is no correlation between outcomes and spending in education. This is just an example, but DC is ahead of all States in spending per pupil and behind all of them in outcomes. More spending in education will only accrue to unionized teachers.

The State's prosperity depends on a few key contributors. It is not spread uniformly. If the top earners leave they will not be replaced by similar caliber folks. As another poster already mention, they will be replaced by South American illegal immigrants.

This election is a very worrisome turn for the worse for MA. We are heading the way of Illinois unfortunately.
There is a huge one when adjusted for poverty, parental education, and ELL and special needs expenditures in addition to regional COL. When as, economists say, AOFBE, pupil spending per capita is a giant differentiator in outcomes.

Those students need more $$ per capita. The reality is within 10 years a third of our students will be Latino and within about 5/6 years half of our students will be minorities are at about 45% today. I don’t really expect to see more white children in private schools just less of them every year due to birth rate. The need of MA students will change and this gives the leeway to help protect against sagging performance.

It’s not a zero sum game/racial war. You just adjust to the reality confronting you.

Some of us understand that these kids are entitled to an education, but would also like to see this state start giving a crap again about the people actually from here. Every year the state becomes less and less attractive to native born citizens (especially families) and it's disheartening to see so many move away. As you said, it's bad enough with the low birth rate.

What makes these kids who are here illegally thanks to their parents 'entitled' to an education off the MA dime? Entitled seems like a strong word to use.

I wasn't talking about those here illegally, but even then there's a lot of "ifs ands or buts" at play.

Also I had no idea Maura Healey was gay until last night. I guess that's not a bad thing as it shouldn't matter. I have been hearing about her for years but that I didn't know.

It is simply not true. More spending is only tied to teachers' compensation. Just look at the spending per capita for all the towns in MA and run a correlation. It does not make any difference. What makes a difference is having parents who care about their children's education and actually push them and ensure they behave in class. Unfortunately money picked from well-off people's pockets can't buy that. Until we replace the progressive mantra of spending for the reality of having a culture that values excellence, hard work and competence things won't improve.
