I guess he needs to get out of that TX heat. He seems to have no ties to MA and is a west coast guy for the most part. Just interesting to me that of all the places in the US (or even the world) he chose to invest about 10k into Harwich, MA.
Yes I thought that was odd as well. Maybe he's looking to branch out and have a good lobster roll.

If the other poster is correct and the buyer is the CEO of Waste Management, a quick Google search tells me his total compensation in 2019, 2020, and 2021 was $11M, $12M, and $13M.

Think of him buying this house like if you were to buy a really really nice car. You wouldn't view this car purchase as an investment. It's just freaking nice to have.
Yes it's him - the deed notes the Houston address.

He has also sold well over a million shares that he has been awarded over his 15 years there including 130K shares in 2021 that netted him almost $18.5 million.

A detached condo is one that does not share any walls with any other units. One may or may not own the land it sits on. My SIL owns a 2100 sq. ft. detached condo - single family home with a 2 car garage - but does not own the land. That is owned by the condo association.

He is still the CEO and President of the largest waste management in the country. He's not trying to escape the Texas heat - he simply bought a vacation house for his family and for some reason unknown to us, his family chose Harwich.

That house in Houston is still his house. I'm guessing he owns a warm weather place to escape to in the winter as well.

Don't we all know by now that MA is the place where everyone and their brother just has to buy a house?!

That house is now completely gone. Torn down. So whoever bought it had 6M and is now putting in more money to build a new house. People have money that I couldn't imagine around here.
There is still more demand for small houses than there is supply. Unless you posit the number of housing units is decreasing, all the people moving out because it’s too expensive are being replaced by people who can afford to bid up housing. Maybe it’s different where you are, but every house sold around me is either occupied immediately or after an extensive refurbishment. No one is investing in the property and leaving it vacant.

Yes, houses around me are selling pretty quickly but most not for 6M just to be torn down. I get it though...perhaps there wasn't what he was looking for in Chatham or on Nantucket.
