I believe she lived in one of those corporate owned/managed complexes. Yeah, they gouge in every way they can.

I looked at Royal Crest and The Heights prices and there's several units available soon, and the one bedrooms are around or under 2k. I looked at Royal Crest a long time ago and thought it was decent enough but too far of a commute.

Yeah 2k is a lot for Marlborough... but that's what it is.

That is crappy to take advantage of someone having a cat. Sad.

I’m sure there’s a reduced marginal utility at that level of house, but expenses aside it’s a lot nicer in nearly every way than any house I’ve ever lived in. If you have $20m and spend $18m of it on an amazing house that may be a stretch, but if you have $500m and spend $18m of it on a amazing house that’s in the noise.

$75 for a cat is a signal to anyone that the management are dirtballs and they shouldn't do business with them.

Can't be that crappy if they had 5 students accepted to Harvard.

I'd rather save $5mil and take $13mil to buy this one instead https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2...5966993_zpid/?

If I stayed, in total my rent + fees has almost doubled since I moved in 5 years ago. I thought last year's increase of $200 was something, but this year blew it out of the water.

Of course, it will be much more expensive moving closer, but I'm just shocked that there seems to be limited vacancies despite the high cost.
Oh man,,, the renewal always starts to give me anxiety 2-3 months in this town! Never had this issue back in the midwest where it barely increases (20-50$ max a year). I'm curious is this a complex or a landlord?
Were you at all able to negotiate last year?
My rent (3bd) was increased by 500$ last year,,, and we negotiated down to 270$. This year it was increased by 260$, and we negotiated it again down to 17$ (only reason for this,,, they had an empty 3bd, and it was there for 4 months). Negotiation often works

Agree with needing to negotiate all the time with things like big landlords, cable company, etc.
