The suspect (or suspects) hasn't been caught. The victims are dead.

Authorities are warning neighbors to lock their doors.

Was this a hate crime? That's the only thing that would make sense. There are a lot of Jewish people in Newton.
I agree that it's strange to say with certainty that the suspect(s) don't know the victims unless they're omitting information. Without other information, I am betting that the perp and victims did know each other.

At the end of the video it's mentioned that the victims attended Catholic church.

I keep one on each floor so it doesn't take more than a few seconds to reach. If you're really paranoid then you can always sleep with your bedroom door locked. That way you will have enough time even if they break through the main door rather quickly.

It is hard to believe that this was a random incident given the location of the house.

or as I already mentioned, get a dog as a first line of defense/deterrent. If your dog is barking like crazy when they normally don't in the wee hours of the night you know something must be out of the ordinary.

Maybe it was angry relative waiting for them to die so they could get the money for the house.

I just heard it on the national news. Said it was random and was noticed when the couple failed to show up at church.

Based on press conference sounds like it was a cuckoo neighbor down the street that had no connection to them. Scary...never know who your neighbors are or when they might snap!

It was a couple in their 70s and they were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. The other person was the wife's mother who lived with them. She was in her 90s.

They were stabbed and beaten.
