This was briefly mentioned in the Braintree thread. But because 3 elderly people were RANDOMLY MURDERED in Newton, this is worthy of its own thread.

True. But the armed population prepared to defend themselves in Newton, Needham, Wellesley, Weston = ~ 2%.

How do you know it's RANDOM? I'm not seeing any such mention on the Boston Globe.

It sounds like the 3 people killed weren't known to the perpetrators. I'm guessing the people who did this knew the people in that home were elderly and saw them as easy targets. Really awful.

This happened in newton less than a year ago and I'm surprised by how little coverage it received:

everything i read suggests still early in the investigation so not conclusive if it was truly random.

Blunt force trauma and stabbing would suggest to me the perps personally hated the victims, vs using a firearm, but that's all I got based off watching an episode of CSI last week.

The Middlesex DA and the Newton Police department said so.
