Apparently we have 43,000 millionaires and 8 billionaires living in our state. Not surprising given how fast the $2M+ houses are still flying off the market and all the $80K plus vehicles seen on our roads. The top 10 richest cities in America (cnbc.com)

I did not know the Bay Area was a city! This must imply the results wouldn’t be the same if San Francisco was a standalone city. A bit deceiving if the other places are judged as cities and not metros.

It says "US Metros" at the top of the map and list. I'm sure NYC includes at least Northern/Central NJ given all its wealthy residents and probably at least part of CT.

Why do we keep glorifying millionaires and billionaires?

A million dollars doesn't mean as much as it used to, obviously. Lots of people are millionaires.

I would think there would be a lot more than 43,000 in MA. The definition of a millionaire is someone with a net worth of at least 1 million...and that obviously includes the value of their house. Though the house would need to be paid off. Still...

Often it doesn't include the value of real estate.

Fidelity reports 422K accounts with over $1mil in the entire US. Even if you divided that evenly among all 50 states, that's only ~8500 per state.

Obviously that excludes non-fidelity accounts, but they seem to be the biggest provider.

We have accounts with Fidelity but also other accounts elsewhere so the money is spread out.
