My cocker spaniel and I, both females, would like to move to Maui from the mainland. We both just moved from Mexico to the Pacific NW.

I am stressing out about the move and my dog. My friends in Hawaii are long gone....therefore, I no longer have contacts.

I just survived a hurricane in Mexico and lost my house...which to say, was my boat. So, I am well equipped in the adjustment dept. of life. I get a do-over and I would like to do-over in Maui.

I stayed in Kauai in the past, but found it lacking in tourism. I liked Maui better for climate and tourism. I am an artist and would like to sell my art cards to tourists p/t.

Any suggestions for me starting my life again in the U.S. in the islands?
I would like to know:
are there jobs available for a 50+ female?
is it hard to share rent with a dog?
is there much discrimination against whites working?
is there age discrimination for over 50?
is there public transportation?

Thanks for any input.

much luck with your move, I think it may be hard to get settled but it is doable. come with as much savings as possible. I would think renting a room with a dog would be harder than if you lucked out and found a small studio that allows pets. jobs are hard to come by here even for the young, again have as much savings as possible. it always helps to be local or have local references, experience that fits the job. our wages here are low most folks have more than one job. you will find hatred everywhere, treat people like you want them to treat you and you will be fine. breaking into the art world here as an artist is extremely hard as we have 'world class" art in the islands, but there are smaller venues that might be an outlet for you if you market and self represent yourself
