My boyfriend and I are moving to Memphis-he has a job in Germantown and I will be working somewhat close to the area. We are looking at a temporary place to stay while we get a feel for Memphis and search for a good place to live. We saw that Intown Suites at 3539 Ridgeway Road Memphis, TN 38115 had a really reasonable rate and we could stay there for the first month or two while we get adjusted and learn more about the area. Does anyone know if this would be a decent place to stay? We don't care if it is small, just that it is clean and safe and the staff is friendly and won't try to scam us. Does anyone have any thoughts about Intown Suites or the area? Any advice is appreciated because neither one of us has ever been to Memphis!

I would avoid this place. There are other extended stay locations in the area that would be safer although they would likely be more expensive. Check out the Extended Stay America at 6325 Quail Hollow, the Homestead Studios at 6500 Poplar Ave, or the Residence Inn at 6141 Old Poplar Pike. These are in much better locations for safety. If those are too expensive, you might check out the Extended Stay America at 6520 Mt. Moriah. It's not as good a location as the other three I listed but is in a better location than the one on Ridgeway.

My work takes me around all these locations and the one on Ridgeway is just not a place I could recommend to anyone who can afford something better. Lots of foot traffic from the surrounding areas (which aren't great) and the folks that stay there seem to be fairly rough as well.

I agree with the previous poster. Also, the Value Place would be worth checking into as well. It's in a little better area than The Intown suites.

Value Place
7060 Riverdale Bend Road, Memphis, TN 38115

Thank you for the replies! The Value Place looks like it has the same rates as the Intown Suites so if it is in a better area that will be great!

I agree with everyone who has posted so far. As in most cities location is very important. A few miles or a few blocks makes all the difference in the world regarding safety and areas with lower crime rates. Unfortunately, many of the establishments that offer weekly and monthly rates are often hosts to some nafarious activity. Be observant and vigilant if you see signs of criminal activity in a hotel that you are staying at it's time to move on. Memphis is a good city with a lot of fun things to enjoy. It also has some great neighborhoods to call home, you just have to find them. When in doubt ask someone that's lived here a while.
