We used to live in Memphis area and are considering moving back and looking at different areas to live in. I think I have a good understanding of the different areas atmosphere and schools, but I'm not sure about rush hour commute times. Can you share with me rush hour commute times to downtown from different suburbs like Bartlett, Arlington, Lakeland, Germantown, Southhaven and Olive Branch?

It really depends on where your house is located in each area, how many residential stop signs, stop lights, etc you have to go through. If you have to mess with Germantown Rd anywhere And of course, car wrecks, ongoing construction, etc. I have lived in Cordova and sometimes it would take 20 minutes, sometimes an hour. Arlington and Lakeland are of course further out. Germantown can take a while depending on where you are there, as there is so straight interstate if you are in the northern part. I have no idea about MS suburbs. I can't even tell you were Olive Branch is. Southaven is....straight south on 55 maybe? I don't go into MS ever.

I live in South East Memphis (reserve) probably about 3 miles from state line near Olive Branch. I have about a 30 min + 10 commute to downtown. Southhaven should not a bad commute comming up I55 to downtown should be 20 min + 10. I would probably add about 15 min to accomodate various driving conditions (i.e. weather, accidents etc.).
The traffic conditions arround the metro area (excluding that walnut grove/240/poplar area) are one of the bright points of the city relative to the population density.

We live in Bartlett, about 8-10 mins off I-40. Depending on the time I leave for work (I work right in the center of the city -- Poplar 240 exit), it takes me anywhere from 20 minutes (6:30-ish) to 45 mins (7:30-ish) to commute. Of course accidents on either side of the expressway cause significant delays. But overall, the commute time is pretty good from Bartlett.

Oakland commute to my work is 45 mins to an hour minimum. Eads would be a little less, Lakeland a little less.

Good luck!
