So, is it just the norm to slam doors in the city?

I've spent 6-8 years out in the country living with my family, so I'm used to peace and quiet, but since going to college in Memphis, I have not had a single neighbor nor roommate who does NOT love to slam every door they can get their hands on.

They slam the door when they're entering the room, they slam the door when they leave the room, they slam the door when going into the bathroom, they slam the door when they leave the bathroom, they slam their bedroom door when going to sleep, they slam the bedroom door when they get up, they slam, they slam, they slam.

And I know (or at least I'm assuming) that it is nothing personal, but it's kind of hard not to take things personal between 12:00 AM - 5:00 AM in the morning, and you've only had 1-5 hours of sleep, and you got woke up and can't go back to sleep, and you've got 8:00 AM classes in the morning. I mean, not even earplugs help.

I can't even slam a door that hard even if I tried, and trust me, I've tried. I'd end up breaking the door frame or knob off, or I can't even get the door to slam like they can, or the door won't close and I have that awkward moment where I have to fiddle with the door a bit to get it to close when I really don't want to talk to nor even SEE my roommate/sweetmate/neighbor because he woke me up at 3:****ING AM IN THE MORNING WITH THE GODDAMN DOOR.

But I don't do that anymore, because that's passive-aggressive, and I detest passive-aggressive behavior. And I could only imagine that if I did, then HE would get pissed off, and it would just turn into a contest to see who can slam the door and be passive-aggressive the most before one of us starts swingin'.

Thank God my current roommate is gone most of the night working, and I can just use him as an alarm clock to get up at 5:00 AM, and I even feel like THAT'S going to go south, eventually.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Its a habit I think. I have had neighbors in apartments that did this. People in my undergrad dorms did it too. My next door neighbor right now shuts his door so hard it shakes and vibrates my apartment. It feels like a small, quick earthquake is happening. I guess its just an annoying habit that people have and we have to deal with it.

People here are overall pretty apathetic.

If your roommate is a door-slammer, youtube should have taught you by now to butter the floor to teach them a lesson.
