Are there any general aviation pilots on here? If so, what is the best GA airport in the Memphis area? I am looking for an airport with a sense of community where the pilots sit around and share stories when they are not flying.

I am also looking for an independent CFI who has his / her own aircraft. I am a private pilot who is currently working on my multi. I should have it before I move to Memphis but am looking to begin my instrument rating soon.

Also any good flying clubs with a low to reasonable buy in?

Thanks.

I don't know if there are any flying clubs there, or if pilots use it for social purposes, but there is a small airport near Mud Island, headed towards Frayser. It's off of 2nd St, which changes names by the time it hits Thomas St (51).

I think the name of the airport is General Dewitt Spain Airport. I've seen small planes on the field before. I would say Google the name to get a number, and talk to someone directly.

I've been through Olive Branch Airport about a dozen times flying with a friend. There were always a few older guys standing around the lobby talking. I couldn't tell you too much about it since I haven't been over there in a few years.
AirNav: KOLV - Olive Branch Airport

It is off of Hacks Cross Rd, about 10 minutes South of the Germantown city limits.

Both of these are great choices. If I had to choose between the two, I would go with the Olive Branch

Yeah. I will most likely give Olive Branch my first look as I will probably be living the G'town area and it is pretty close. Thanks for the input.
