I made it back alive and I am happy to be home. I like the Beale Street area and I love the very low taxes compared to NW Arkansas, but I do not like the area. The roads are horrible. Also, I have never in my life have witnessed a city police officer carrying a fully automatic rifle at a football game, not to mention the helicopters flying overhead with their spotlights on the ground when the game was over. I felt like I was in a war zone. I also had very poor service at the restaurants. I actually had to walk out of one because the server never came back to give us our ticket. I am guessing the low taxes are the reason that the roads seem so bad, right?

Beale Street was great and the trolley drivers were really nice, but Memphis is definitely not a place that I would want to call home.

--' the low taxes are the reason the roads seem so bad"-------

makes one wonder what they are using that steep sales tax revenue $$$$$$ on.

TN isn't dumb.

If they had an income tax they could only apply it to its residents.
That steep sales tax nails residents and tourists alike .

Tourists like Dr Foosball and myself.

Are you sure it wasn't just a semi-auto AR-15? My wife and I have some. You have to match the local gangs in firepower.

You were in Memphis. That's why I live on the other side of the state line. Check out the crime stats.

Where? For every one of these stories, we can give you dozens of positive examples. I've known servers so well that I have been invited to their baby showers.

Cracker Barrel and Primetime Sports Bar (it was pretty big and they only had one waitress to cover the whole restaurant on Friday night with 60K football fans in town ). Those were the worst.

Rendezvous was pretty crazy too. The guy refused to change anything on the order. He told us, "This aint Burger King, you get it the way we make it." lol. I guess when you have a 2 hour wait all weekend you can do whatever you want to do.

For what it is worth, I am not trying to be the guy who finds a bad thing in every situation. There were some nice people who I ran into while in Memphis. We went to TJ Mulligans and I have never enjoyed being cussed at so much in my life by that waitress. She was pretty funny.

Cracker Barrel is in Arkansas. Primetime just opened, trying to replace the old Jillian's dance club. Rendezvous is simply like that....that's why it's annoying to me (and many locals). They have a reputation that they can live on forever, so they don't need to be good. Tourists flock to it no matter what!

This person talked about staying at a hotel in Marion or West Memphis. I assumed therefore he went to that one.

It was my experience during my trip to TN that the people and business places were friendly and courteous, if you were not in an area that was catering to tourists.

Where tourists were plentifull, I noticed friendliness and courtesy of employees of restaurants , convenience stores, etc disappeared.

I guess they can " bite the hand that feeds em" and get away with it.

Gotcha. And that would make sense. Since West Memphis is truly a hell hole with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, I could definitely see the servers there being miserable -- along with everyone else.

Yes, it was in West Memphis.

Again, there were things I liked about the area. I don't want to be confused for one of those people who complain about everything.
