There has been a relatively recent escalation of violence and criminal activity in and nearby the Lakeside communities. There will soon be or was recently a peace march there. It's something that's troubling not only the long-time Mexican residents, but the expat population which wonders if paradise is lost. The Guadalajara area has been troubled by cartel violence and more dead bodies are likely to turjn-up. The U.S. Department of Defense has issued instructions that service personnel and their families are to avoid the state of Jalisco, along with some other areas in the country.
The 'war on drugs' is the problem.
Someone needs to fix the problem.
This violence is a symptom of a problem much bigger than drugs: the historical corruption within the Mexican government, military, and police combined with the Mexican government's weak control outside of the big cities.
This of course is common to virtually all Latin American nations.

Yes. The drug addicts and "recreational users" in the USA should stop abusing, if not to lessen the horrific violence they're responsible for in Mexico, but for themselves.

Si, correcto!

If "recreational users" in the US could grow their own or buy locally grown products, why would they pay for drugs smuggled in from Mexico?
In the town I live in, even here in Texas, marijuana has been de facto decriminalized. I have friends who were stopped for traffic violations with their car full of marijuana smoke, and the police said nothing about it. Recreational use has been recognized by the police as a non-factor in criminality.
My next door neighbor would be on Social Security disability, if it were not for his medicinal use of marijuana, and it locally available so cheaply that he can afford it.
"Drug addicts" is a totally different matter. Please do not conflate them into a single issue.
Substance abusers always have excuses ... for their addictions. There is no valid excuse, particularly when their bad habits are causing death and destruction on such a wide scale as we're witnessing in Mexico.

How are Americans using drugs in America creating violence in Mexico?
At the end of the day on it's own merit Mexico is a corrupt and violent place which is why millions of it's own nationals have fled. The violence in Mexico is a result of said corruption and greed on the part of Mexico's government and cartels. When American drug dealers start immigrating to Mexico illegally or start beheading and hanging American's from mexican bridges then you can blame Americans for the horror known as mexican crime and corruption.
