Rick, thanks to the media, most Americans are unaware that metro Detroit is surrounded by low crime white middle class suburbs.

He means the SHADY parts, where the sun doesn't hit much; dark alleys for example. Which makes sense cuz those places are always unpredictable and very dangerous... places where gangs and all the rats hide.
