As a Miami Hurricanes fan who lives and dies each week here in Milwaukee, it is so sad to see that no one goes to Miami Hurricanes Football games anymore. I manage to fly down for one game a year and it's just sad to see nobody there for one of the most successful programs in history. ESPN still puts them on National TV because even though the Canes haven't been what they used to be they still are a huge draw on TV and whenever Miami say travels to Nebraska or Michigan or some other team they haven't played in a while, it's always the hottest ticket in that teams town all year.

Here is a pic just before kickoff:

The stadium is far from Coral Gables. A lot do watch from places like the Ale House or from home.

The commute was a lot shorter when the games were held at the Orange Bowl (R.I.P.) and with traffic only getting worse and worse here, people just aren't willing to make the trip when they could just watch it comfortably from home or the local bar.

Because the stadium is nowhere near the campus. Playing in a pro stadium, you lose the college atmosphere that is so special at other universities. It just doesn't feel right. It is also hot as f*ck during the day games. Seems like a tough sell when the team isn't playing that well. U of M also doesn't have a huge student population (although it isn't small either) and is located in a big city where residents have lots of options on a Saturday. This is different than Nebraska where the huskers are the only game in the state. You see the same big city issue with a team like UCLA. In a ideal world, they would build a smaller stadium with more character closer to the campus. I think I heard the AD say as much. I think Michigan fans would consider OSU the biggest game of the year.

Also there is so much television coverage that pretty much every team in the major conferences is on national TV every Saturday. That isn't limited to Miami. The New York Times did research on the most popular teams based on facebook data and the teams with the most followers in different zip codes were Texas, Oregon, and Notre Dame if memory serves.

True but here in Milwaukee I can usually watch all but 2 or 3 games since the rest are aired up here on national tv even more so than the Wisconsin Badgers.

Also, when UM played at the Orange Bowl, students could take Metrorail to Culmer station, then a shuttle bus to the OB. Not too much of a hassle. Now, if they go the Metrorail route, would have to get off at MLK station and a long ride on the 27 bus, changing in a sketchy neighborhood. So maybe some thought it wasn't worth the hassle if they didn't want to or couldn't drive to the game.
