SoBe has definitely changed from the good old days of the 90's and early 2000s. I stopped going because a idiot threw a bottle at me because I didn't respond to his profanity laced pick up line to me. Cops were all over him and his pos friends in a heartbeat. Never went back and it's just declined since then. I have zero interest in going to Sobe after dark

True, but these guys will stay away from Ocean Drive after midnight in general. In fact, many of them end up on Lincoln Road instead. Not difficult at all to avoid the party animal tourist scene.

Brickell will eventually become the new South Beach, the hot spot of Miami. so let it ride its course as Miami will do a better job of enforcing law. South Beach will probably turn back to its olden days of the old Jewish people rocking on the front porch of a once lavish art deco hotel, tourism dollars won't be lost just shifted, well it was fun Sobe while it lasted. What's that saying, it takes just a few rotten apples to spoil the whole barrel

the beach will always attract crowds. how its managed and policed will determine what crowd. its the cities choice which crowd it caters too. brickell doesnt have the entertainment factor. its a ghost town at night

Brickell will never become the destination South Beach is. Brickell not only lacks a beach it lacks a large public access waterfront. Brickell is a complete sellout to the developers with no attractive public spaces. The buildings in Brickell are a tribute to bad architecture with some of the buildings developed in the prior boom that ended in 2008 already showing their age. Miami Beach on the other hand does a nice job of ensuring new buildings fit in with the existing architectural style of the city. Brickell also lacks infrastructure to handle all the new developments they are trying to build. After City Center is done no one is going to want to drive down 8th Street and getting into Brickell over the Bridge from downtown is already bad particularly when the bridge is up.

Even if Brickell did become the destination Miami Beach is, you honestly think the City of Miami will do a better job of policing things than the City of Miami Beach?

Hey if they don't Brickell might become an independent municipality, smaller government, easier to enforce. Yea, it is a matter of time for Sobe as it will become thugbeach, tourist will go elsewhere, maybe even Wynwood and Midtown

Fort Lauderdale has such a strong police presence, it has very little problems. I saw a fight break out on Fort Lauderdale Beach last spring and within seconds, I counted 36 cop cars that showed up.

I agree though that South Beach is getting a little ghetto.
