Give him the wallet.
People with guns have far higher probabilities of being shot.

Jeeze, crazy thread... unless you're going to miami to be the next scarface or wanna live the thug life in overtown you should be completely OK without a gun

Statistically, people who carry guns, if their gun does do some killing (as it is intended for), it is usually their kids playing around with it, or an accidental one of some kind - i.e. dad comes home drunk at night, and the wife mistakes the sounds for a burglar, etc.

Some of these guys, they watch way too many TV shows/movies, and this concept that they need to carry a gun around to be cool or tough or whatever...it's pretty ridiculous.

I know American TV and movies focus on guns on nearly every episode of most tv dramas...but for Joe Shmoe to 'pack heat' to visit the beach and do flamingo bird watching or whatever, is just ridiculous.

Miami is the only city where I think it unwise to not carry a gun.
Convenience store clerks are enclosed entirely in bullet proof glass like some banks.
Miami has a very energetic criminal class.

By a guy with a knife per your example?

If it was only my skin I might agree with you.
But it's not just my hide I'm worried about.
I don't ever want to be in a position where I can't protect my family from harm.
It's not clear what your getting at with 'probabilities' but it's been proven that guns are used to prevent serious crime (8 to 1?) much more than commit them.
If you don't want to carry a gun, fine. But responsible citizens concerned about random crime will carry that protection.

Miami is special. Having experience in places like Oakland, Compton, Manila's smokey mountain to name a few I found the probability of random assaults by local thuggery not just possible bur likely.
Want to know what doesn't add up? A tough guy with second hand info. from streets he hasn't walked talking about things he doesn't know. Your friends are no doubt at the mercy of local thugs because of restrictive national gun laws.
Lace those boots tight!

Miami is very lively, and tons of life and people everywhere.

Detroit is a city where I have regularly seen convenience store clerks enclosed in bullet proof glass. In Miami, it must be just in the worst neighborhoods, because I didn't see it driving around Miami for a week.

I was riding a moped. That gives a person a much more accurate view of things. In a car your isolated, protected and going fast. If you want to get the real feel of a place walk it or ride a bike. Don't get me wrong. I liked Miami just as much as I despised it. My biggest fear was of the extremely attractive transvestites not being shot! They are very convincing.

That doesn't make much sense.. are you calling me a tough guy with second hand info? You drove a moped through Miami and think you know more than me? On top of that I was IN Colombia, and no .. my friends are not at the mercy of local thugs due to gun laws.
