I think the State Parks are one of the best things in this state. I happily pay $24 a year and visit many of them. However.. you're going to be able to add a yearly $10 fee ($5 for motorcycles) to your car registration starting October. I have a car and a motorcycle and soon will only pay $15 a year for both. How's that for value?

I don't really understand how they will increase funding with these lower rates though..

Great deal and I always get a yearly sticker.

I think they are going to raise more money through a higher volume of sales. Drop the price to less than half and I bet there are a LOT of people who don't get a yearly sticker now, who will buy the pass for the lower price. It will be interesting to see how the actual numbers come out.

I agree, I like the idea and I think the numbers will be interesting to see. One thing that bothered me this past week when I went to Bond Falls in the U.P. is that they only have a self registration kiosk. I gladly paid the $6 because I like the place, however there must have been 10-15 cars that came and went during my time there and not one person stopped to registered (some from Mich, some out of state). That's a lot of $$$ the state is losing out on because they are asking people to pay on the honor system and the majority just take advantage of that (at least based on what I saw last week). If they aren't going to hire people to collect the $$$, then they need to come up with a better system to try to minimize what they're currently losing out on.

We were at Bond Falls very early one morning. Returning to the parking lot after our hike, we encountered a park employee who had come to take the $ from the box. She was patiently waiting for law enforcment to show up, because someone had broken into the box and of course taken all the cash. I agree, Michigan needs a better system.

we just spent 2 years restoring a 1975 VW camper van. her maiden voyage was a last-minute run up to TQ falls late last fall...just before the first snow.
i put a year's sticker fee in the envelope and into the kiosk box, not knowing the "year" runs from jan-dec. this was the first time i ever paid more than the daily fee. two weeks later, a lady called me and told me that she would hold my money until january first and put in for my sticker then. sweet. it came in the mail just when she said it would.

I always GLADLY paid for my annual sticker; was 20 bucks last time I got one.....

Used it year 'round, as I typically would hit a frozen lake at some state park in January.

Best deal ever.

Sweet, I heard about this when I bought my annual sticker this year, didn't think it would ever actually happen though.
