We just returned from our 9 day trip to the U.P and it was absolutely awesome! On the way to the Porcupine Mountains we decided to go thru Marquette and take a look. Well, we went on the outskirts, but anyways we were VERY impressed with what we saw. Seemed there was every kind of store you could ever want, and were hoping to find a Verizon store so we could buy a charger (which we forgot at home), anyways we saw three Verizon stores and were happy to pick one up! For the most part all the stores were awesome looking and not run down at all. We almost immediately fell in love. We decided we would take a closer look on the way home, so we parked our RV and took a ride around the town. To be honest, I did not have high expectations....but again we were VERY impressed! We loved everything about Marquette and the surrounding area. The area seemed to be hopping with people and excitement, and every store seemed busy. We could instantly see the economy was much better then we ever thought up there. We drove near the lake and saw the Farmers Market...and seemed like thousands of people walking around it. It was NOTHING like the crowds at the farmers market in my area where I sell some of my things....it was amazing! The whole area is stunningly beautiful!! The only downside we found, is it seems like the home prices are crazy! A house that would go for $80,000 in my area is double up there! Anyways, we loved Marquette and it has now taken over TC as our number one place to live.

I live here in Mqt and the city has a very good vibe too it. Glad you enjoyed your trip. I think though the realtors are hurting the city though as I agree that they are asking too much for housing. Greed I guess but this will cause young families to move outside the city etc.. On a good note housing is stable in the city and is a safe buy

Did you enjoy the rest of your trip? How were the Porcupine Mountains? Did you have time to go up into the Keewenaw at all?

Glad you enjoyed your trip. The UP is wonderful. Thanx for the good word on Marquette, that is our first destination for a week's vacation. I have a 2 day training seminar for the job I hold in juvenile probate and will drive the distance to Marquette....so that's our first stop (my wife and I). Dont have a clue what my wife will do while I'm in training but knowing it's a good sized town I'm glad she will find something to get into.

Our whole trip was just amazing weedlady! We visited Iron Mountain, Little Girls Point...even went into Wisconsin and had pizza made over a wood stove! We hiked in the Porkies and seen a ton of waterfalls.....amazing! A few of the waterfalls in the Presque Isle River almost rival the Tahquamenon Falls, and the river is full of amazing rock formations! We did go to Copper harbor which is absolutely incredible! The drive up the Keewenaw is unreal as you pass through Houghton and all the little mining towns plus the tunnel of trees. The forests are endless and full of lakes and rivers with hundreds of waterfalls. I could go on and on, but I will tell you I did shed a tear leaving the U.P......It really is Gods country!!! I will be posting a lot of pics as soon as I can in the Michigan picture thread.
Oh...and Lake Superior was absolutely awesome.....the water was warmer then when we went to Lake Michigan a month ago....it was fantastic swimming!!!!

Marquette is a great town, no city in the state has the scenery they do. The place is truly Gods country. When I lived in the Soo we would go over to Marquette for get away weekends. The Soo area is pretty, but even that is nothing compared to the Marquette area.

Well, now you know what I have been saying on these Michigan threads for so long. It really IS the place to be in the Mid-West..... glad to hear you have reset your priorities further north.

Just a random question, does the western or eastern UP have the most evergreen trees?

The western and middle seems to have more. I love evergreens, and hope to live near as many as possible! There is also a lot of open farmland in between, but this is what I have observed anyways.
