Also, come and stay nearly any weekend, and you are likely to see all 4 seasons! lol

Its no longer retirement friendly in terms of taxes.

Gray winter days. NW MI around Traverse City is as bad for lack of sun as Seattle (not the rainy mist though)

California is a disaster in a lot of areas but not with respect to the weather. I think the weather is pretty much perfect where I am at compared to Michigan.

Never been to Sweden, Norway or Denmark, but don't they have almost complete darkness for part of the year, then complete daylight in part of summer? Not that way here.

It gets boring. (The weather does).

I always thought that too. When I was in college in Phoenix I would go crazy nuts by the 45th day of not a cloud in the sky. It's boring. I need diversity in my weather. I'm not saying that February in Michigan is preferable, but good grief I need rain and thunderstorms sometimes. The weather out west is beyond stingy with diversity.

My wife couldn't stand it. For me, perfect every day was ok most of the time. It did get dull though at times. One thing it meant was you tended to stay in more. ou were not afraid to miss such a beautiful day because the next day would be the same and the next and the next. Remarkably when we moved back we found we spent a lot more time outside.

I guess that just proves that people will complain about the weather no matter what. In Phoenix though, I figured that the real complaint would be about the 110+ degree temperatures in the summer. Here it's more about just taking for granted that it's going to be clear and 65-80F about 90% of the time. You don't have to rush out and enjoy a good day like you do in MI where it's an infrequent occurrence.

In NM, the biggest complaint I heard was the wind. Summers had thunderstorms and more frequent rain than a lot of MI but they call it monsoon season.

The biggest cons regarding Michigan weather is the lack of sunshine. Those lakes just create too many lake effect clouds in the winter. Snow in the mountains of NM just made it beautiful. Storms come and go but there are a lot of sunny days in between where that just isn't the case in MI. You also tend to have very short Fall's and Spring's; weather wise it's either an extension of winter or summer where these are much more their own seasons in other parts of the country. The leaf colors in Fall can be gorgeous in MI but that seems to last about 2 weeks; it can be a lot shorter than that if it rains or there's a wind storm at the right time.

I've been out here in California a year and so far still love the weather. If I didn't, I'd probably be moving because the political climate out here is not for me. I think they just banned the use of shopping bags out here this week but legalized pot. The people are crazy.

For me, it took about 15 years to get sick of California. It was not the weather or the wierdos (mostly not), it was the crowds, business and terrible moral/social atmosphere.

When you get a chance, go attend a day of session at the California State legislature, or to a lesser extent a city council meeting (varies by city). Bring something you recognize so you can look at it from time to time to confirm it is not a dream (nightmare) or another planet. You will see and hear some of the weirdest stuff you could never imagine.

I'm in an area with only 7K people with neighboring cities of 42K to the south (5 miles) and 102K to the north (20 miles) so it's not the overpopulated mess like that of the LA area, San Diego, or San Francisco.
It's still mostly liberal so you have to figure that most of the people are weird though. I'd feel much more comfortable in Michigan. I've almost moved back several times where I have actually scheduled movers and had jobs waiting but it usually comes down to this: higher compensation (even after taxes/expenses) and better weather.

I just looked at the northern MI weather. Traverse City hit a record temperature of 73F but they're predicting 3-7 inches of snow tomorrow. What's up with that? Here it'll be 68F tomorrow and the average highs are still in the 60's with normally sunny skies. My commute to work is less than a mile and I'm not in an area with lots of crowds. I just have to put up with liberals and their weird environmental laws and draconian gun laws. At some point, I'll hit my breaking point and probably move back to MI but at that point the difference in compensation levels would easily make it so I could afford to purchase a house there with cash -- not so much here.

Michigan---land of cold, damp weather. I remember my feet always being cold, no matter what I did---expensive boots, thermal, moisture wicking socks, etc, etc, still my feet were always cold.
