We love Grand Rapids! Lived there for 6 years and hope to move back someday. There is so much to do there, culture, close to the lake, etc. We always felt that Grand Rapids had alot of cummunity pride. And truly they have alot to be proud of. As soon as we finish our education we hope to come back.

Competitor's pain is Perrigo's gain

Friday, August 24, 2007
By Julia Bauer
The Grand Rapids Press

ALLEGAN -- In the high-stakes world of generic drugs, a slip-up in quality can spell disaster.

Or opportunity...

...Tragedy for Leiner meant $10 million in sales for Perrigo in its latest quarter, bringing fourth-quarter sales to $374.3 million.

The unexpected withdrawal by the competition boosted Perrigo's quarterly profit to a new high of $18.8 million, a 53 percent increase from a year ago.

For its fiscal year ending June 30, the generic drug and health supplement maker reported sales up 6 percent to $1.45 billion. Income rose 4 percent to $73.8 million, or 79 cents per share...

The company makes office furniture, including movable wall systems, tables and seating....

WMU park gets G.R. firm

Wednesday, August 29, 2007
By Alex Nixon
anixon@kalamazoogazette.com 388-2783

Western Michigan University's Business Technology and Research Park has picked up a new occupant.

Grand Rapids-based Fleis & VandenBrink Engineering Inc. was to announce today that it intends to build a new Kalamazoo office in the business park at WMU's Parkview Campus.

The company expects to break ground on the site this fall and move from its current Portage Street office to a new 10,000-square-foot building when construction is finished in the spring, company President Larry J. Fleis said.

``We're a high-tech, aggressive firm, and we want to work with the university, maximize our ability to recruit top-notch students and grow in a place that makes sense for our firm geographically,'' Fleis said.

Fleis & VandenBrink has about 25 employees in Kalamazoo, a number that could grow as it makes connections with WMU engineering students, Fleis said.

``One of the things is, you have the opportunity to be a resource to the students,'' he said of the advantages of moving into the research park. ``But you can also identify the best students and look at that for filling spots in the future.''

The company is growing despite Michigan's economy, Fleis said. And he said he sees potential for more growth in southwestern Michigan.
