I thought this was an interesting comparison. Snyder is right, employment is up over 110,000 since he took office Jan 2011, enough to fill UofM stadium.

Yet even with the rebound, predictions are that Michigan and Nevada won't regain the jobs lost til at least 2017, the last two states to do so.

And yet the Obama haters won't give him crdit for bailing out the Auto Industry (Socialist/Socialism!!! zOMG!!!), which is where I bet the lion's share of these jobs came from versus from anything Snyder did....

The question becomes, does Michigan need to regain all the jobs lost? If population is down, yet the State gets close to full employment with the people here, has a healthy balance sheet (and continues to grow slowly and attract new jobs), is that a bad thing?

In other words, at employment peak, was Michigan unsustainable with the way it was structured?

Were all of the new jobs given to U-M fans like those in the picture?

Double kudos to Snyder for that.

Exactly. With all of the people that we've lost, we don't need to regain all of those jobs to have a healthy economy. No one cares how many people live here. It's all about how healthy the economy is.

So the numbers appear to be a bit less than 110,000.

2011 had 63,000 jobs and 2012 is predicted to see 30,000 jobs for the year.

But I suppose there are ways to reach the 110,000 figure even before we get through 2012.

Fulton was very close in his prediction for 2011 (61,500 vs. 63,000) and his 2012 forecast (30,000) will probably be close as well.

Michigan gained 63,000 jobs in 2011, growth to continue Michigan Economic Development Corporation sent this bulletin at 11/18/2011 12:04 PM EST

Fulton expects job gains of 33,000 during 2012, down from his previous estimate of 61,500.
George Fulton, U-M economist, has co-authored an economic forecast for Washtenaw County since 1986.
Melanie Maxwell | AnnArbor.com
For 2011, Fulton lowered his job gains forecast by 3,400, predicting a total of 61,200 new jobs. The largest job gains are in the service industries, led by health, professional and business services, with jobs in the government sector continuing to shrink, he said.

I like much of what Gov. Snyder has been trying to do, but he has had virtually no impact upon the job market in Michigan. Just like in states across the country where the economy is getting better, the credit belongs on the federal level. If President Obama were a Republican, the right-wingers in this country would be trumpeting the remarkable turnaround which has taken place since he was elected. Americans need to pull together and support our President. Under the circumstances, he's been doing a pretty good job.
