Hey all... Looking for any information you could help me with in reference to Irons MI. I understand its in Eden Twp, Lake County and I was looking for any advice general or specific about moving there. I have a chance to obtain a property there on 10 acres and it seems like a nice but relatively secluded area.
Thanks for any advice.

I have driven through on occasion - it is secluded and rustic. All shopping is in Ludington or Cadillac. It's in a national forest near Wellston, Tippy Dam Pond, Pine Lake campground, an "outdoor sportsmen's hunting/fishing paradise". Sorry, I have no info on living there.

Still appreciated! Thanks.

One of my sons friends live in Irons. His family does a lot of their shopping in Manistee or Baldwin because they are about 10 miles closer that either Ludington or Cadillac, big box stores though are not in Manistee or Baldwin and you have to go to one of the other two mentioned. Just up the road in Dublin is a small store that has some amazing meat and they make their own sausages, meat sticks, jerky, etc.... I know several people from this area that make the drive up there just to stop by.

It is a very rural, wooded area that is one of the poorest in the State but everyone I know over that direction is friendly. Very good hunting and fishing, great woods to walk/hike in.

Been there many times. Not much I can add to what is said above. If you're looking for woodlands and isolation this is an area that fits the bill. No major shopping there at all. The Dublin grocery store is nice and not far away. Dublin also has a nice fudge shop there too. Irons has a two bars, real estate offices and a hall where craft shows are held.

I greatly appreciate the info.... How are the services with the Twp or the County... I'm former municipal police officer here in NJ and stuff like that interests me. Crime is low I take it? Any trash services etc. I appreciate the help.

I have a lake cabin near Irons. Love the area, been coming there for many years, both during winters and summertime. Not much in terms of the services - you need to haul your garbage to a centralized collection place every month. Dublin store takes care of the basic shopping needs, but need to drive to Cadillac for "serious" shopping.

Like others said - it's a fantastic area for quiet outdoors living. Fishing, hiking, hunting, boating - all second to none. It's also close enough for a day trip to Traverse City and surrounding "wine country".

The area itself is relatively poor, but it has its own rustic appeal. Many people just live off the land, as the economic opportunities are basically non existent. Many people move to the area to retire, as there is a lot of inexpensive property available.

To sum it up.. Me myself - can never see myself living there on a permanent basis, but it's a fantastic place to get away for the big city for a week and recharge. If you are the type of person who prefers secluded rural living and enjoys outdoors - it might be for you.
