For more than a century, motorised vehicles have been banned from Mackinac Island in Michigan - giving the former Revolutionary War battle site a unique charm and turning it into a tourist haven.

The ban is so strictly enforced that when President Gerald Ford visited in 1975, he and first lady Betty Ford travelled by horse-drawn carriage.

Stinking, wasteful, pig. The Island will have to detoxify for the next five years to rid itself of that swine’s stench of entitlement.

The first two posters could use a reminder that within a few months of his carriage ride, two attempts on the life of President Ford were launched and thwarted, and a few years later, President Reagan and the Pope were added to the list. Security became a lot tighter than when I saw President Kennedy from a distance about 50 feet in Harrisburg in 1962. or President Nixon in State College about six years later.

Then he shouldn't have been invited. Plain and simple.

I'm guessing you've never been to Mackinac Island and how intrusive cars would feel there.

It speaks to his poor judgment and character for certain.

I’ve been to mackinaw island.....he should not have taken his cars there. I’m a conservative and usually support Pence but he should have respect for local customs and rules when he visits a place. As was stated President Ford respected it so should he.

The islanders agreed to allow him to bring his cars. If THEY were fine with it, I'm fine with it and so should the rest of you be. It's a matter of security, and how would you ever bullet-proof a horse driven carriage in the time he needed it? I'm sure they could have just as easily said NO, and he would have respected that and had the meeting somewhere else.

As was said above, there's emergency vehicles on the island, and they have no issues with that.

Pence is a snowflake. What is he scared of? Unless he just doesn't care.

Pick one.

Who exactly? Cause they're not happy.

Hmmm. Republicans are throwing him under the bus... Even Fox News! And the citizens are following suit. So I'm not so sure.

It's made the international news about how out of touch he and Trump are.

Or not.

Just like every other embarrassment the Trump administration broadcasts world-wide.... Doesn't count.

lol.

Still waiting for the Racist in Chief to produce the real birth certificated of Obama he said proved he's not American.

When should we all expect that?
