OKay, I'm new to this sport so I was wondering if anyone in the southeast detroit area (around Detroit, like within 20 miles of Detroit) knew any good fishing spots...

Default good fishing

It depends on what you are fishing for. I haven't been fishing in a few years around here, but when I did my favorite inland lakes were Whitmore Lake (city is the same name), Four Mile Lake (near Dexter), and Independence Lake (near Whitmore Lake, city and lake). There would be some days where my father and me couldn't keep the fish out of the boat and others were all we did was sweat and get the line wet. Mid-spring (65-70 degrees outside) was when we had the most luck.

Independence Lake is a private lake where you can launch a boat up to 16 feet long with no more then a 10 HP motor for about $7. It has pike, largemouth, gill, crappie, bullhead (catfish), and bullfin (dogfish). You can rent boats there too. The only jet ski's (a fishermen's or women's worst nightmare) you see sometimes on the weekend, but only from people who have property on the lake.

Whitmore Lake is a larger public lake and it has the same types of fish as Independence Lake, however, it is also stocked with tiger muskie (cross between a pike and muskie, they can't reproduce though so I doubt many are left in the lake), walleye, and small mouth. I personally have never caught a small mouth from it, but my neighbor did. Ohh, during the weekend, it is covered with jet ski's.

Four Mile Lake is a public lake with the same types of fish as Independence Lake. It is an all seasons lake, so they do hunt ducks in the fall in blinds on the lake, I think the shotgun blasts scare the fish more then the people fishing. Rarely do you see jet ski's here.

If you want to have a nice week or weekend fishing trip, try Fletchers Floodwaters (near Aplena). I was there once for about 3 hours and if we kept the fish we caught, my dad and I would of had over 4 times our limit (pike and bass alone)!

Hope this helps!
