i remember even in mayberry there were still gossips and some back biting here and there, and the town drunk too, but mostly they showed a friendly place where pple got along well. if you found a nice place where pple are very nice, helpful and considerate, without being overly judgemental of others, guess you found paradise. ive never been to a place like that. i think as ive gotten older i wish more for such a place, maybe a taste of the past in these high tech times and fast pace. im hoping to purchase an acreage in michigan next yr, so i find your thread very interesting. i like my privacy but dont want to live like a hermit either. being alone its a bit different moving than with a family, not near as good. i dont hunt, i could never shoot a deer, or a living thing unless it was my life or theirs. thats just me. so maybe the northern mich areas, but not the u.p. would be better for me, im still thinking about it.

bydand, i dont think it sounds hokey at all. you paint a very beautiful picture of life in your home town. by the way, kids always think stuff like that is hokey, i probably did too when i was a pup.

Hillsdale MI, but they have been economically slammed but even now I am seeing friends pictures on Facebook and feeling very homesick. The economy though has been very bad to folks there, as well as too many places.

This place had most feeling of community of any place Ive lived. There people knew each other.

Here in St. Joseph MI, I have a sense of sadness over the lack of community and that this place seems to operate more like a bedroom suburb then really having any small town feel of "community" to it. I don't think I will ever find that again. There are nice people here, but they just don't seem as connected and I have learned people here move constantly in and out.

Well now, thanks for thinking of me as a babe, but you are 25 years, a few gray hairs too late. Plus I was a hunk, not a babe. LOL

Holland! Definitely Holland.
I'm not a native nor Dutch and I thought I loved this town until I experienced Sinterklaas Eve in our beautiful downtown on a cold, bitter, windy December night last year.
The beauty of the evening made the temperature a non-issue.
You could *feel* the real Spirit of the Holiday season, it was a truly joyous experience.

Please come and visit us and see for yourself.
Better yet, if you're looking for a beautiful place to live....
