It just boggles me. Out of every place we've ever lived (and we've lived in 5 states, both rural and city), Marquette has the highest rent. I guess there are more people who want to rent than there are rentals available, so the price goes up?

I see that rent in Escanaba and Iron Mountain seems to be cheaper.
There is nothing cheap about Marquette. It has always been on the higher end of prices here in the U.P. The demand for housing here is always brisk, with the University and medical complexes in the area.
Keeping rents high is more important than renting at any low ball price,to most Landloards. It would not be fair to offer a cheap rental just to get a quick tenent, while all the other renters are paying top dollar, now would it?

Default wanting to relocate to Marquette

I passed by the Tractor Supply for the first time a few weeks ago. It's kind of in an oddball location... Lowe's is about as far west as I go unless I'm heading out of town... so I hope it works out for them.

I'm surprised we haven't seen a shop like Old Navy open up, up here. I think a store like that would do well in MQT.

When I was in college in the late 90s/early 2000s at NMU, students always planned bus trips to Appleton every winter to go shopping for the holidays and that's just money leaving town (I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of families made the same sort of trips, too). So it's nice to see the Township kind of take the lead in becoming the central shopping hub for the U.P. Hope more businesses follow suit and they can get the word out and get folks to drive over here to do their shopping instead of heading south of the border.

Then, of course, I hope they can figure out a good way to deal with all the traffic. Turning left coming out of Lowe's on to US-41 isn't always an easy task and if they add more stores out there, it's going to make it even more difficult. Not to mention if they make that truck route go to the stop light at Target/Wal-Mart, that's gonna make it even worse. Someone needs to make a back door access road from the Wright St. extension to the north side of Lowe's or something so 41 doesn't become a death trap.
This might sound crazy or not but I am wanting to move from Columbus, Ohio to Marquette. So traffic won't be an issue for me... But I am having problems finding employment while I am living in Columbus. I did see several opportunities for Best Buy so thinking that that will actually happen sometime soon I hope. I've been to Marquette several times in the last 2 years . I met someone online who I love and been in a long distance relationship since then . I'm ready to move if I find that job . I've been a manager several years in retail here, but I know the job market in Marquette isn't so great... I have noticed a few new places being built in the last 2 years.

Don't know what five states or cities but I can vouch for the fact that while you can get a house to rent cheaper than a 1000 a month in the eastern suburbs of Dayton you probably wouldn't want to live in it....? Sort of depends on what your used to.
