I am part of the board of officers of an organization and one of our officers is quite the "troublemaker." He was in the Navy for about a year before returning to school this past fall, and has never told anyone exactly why he left, or if he is still in the Navy (and I doubt he will tell us the real reason being how he is).
In my interest in investigating his past (his high school classmates tell me he was rather awkward and fixated on certain girls), I was wondering if any public record exists to view the discharge reasons of military veterans.
Because you see him as a troublemaker, you hope to get something on him? And this is how people on your board of officers deals with problems? It's hardly taking the moral high road is it. If you are so curious about his military service record, why not just ask him? At least that isn't being sneaky. Why do you think you are entitled to know his personal business? This sounds more like a group of sorority gals trying to find a reason to blackball a potential pledge than a group of mature adults dealing with a person that obviously does not agree with the board on various issues.

What does his Military Records have to do with your organization? I believe you are not entitled to know his history nor the reason he left the Military simply because it is none of your business and has probably has nothing to do with the organization you represent.
Personally I would like to know which organization it is so I am sure I never donate any money to your particular cause.

I probably should have mentioned the sexual harassment, the text wars he starts which include him calling people "the devil" and him saying "I will retaliate." And the general negative vibe he brings.
Everyone saying he has no rights to his records but yet he is in their organization as an officer and causing trouble? Seems to me he has every right to know who he is dealing with, what if he were dishonorably discharged for drugs or sex offenses? would you want it kept from you? what if he murdered someone and tried covering it up? would you want him around your family and you not knowing, I believe this day in age, everyone has the right to everyone's history, nobody is trustworthy
